Governor Scott Walker made a stop in La Crosse Wednesday celebrating the 10 year anniversary of JobCenterofWisconsin.com, which helps connect job seekers with employers.
Now the attention turns to finding additional workers as Governor Walker says the state has more jobs available than people who are unemployed.
For six months in a row the state’s unemployment rate has been below three percent, but there are still jobs to fill. Walker says the state’s focus is making sure residents in the state are employed, but they’ve also started recruiting to make more people available.
“It’s going out to military bases and pointing out we have more benefits for veterans than any other state in America and a whole bunch of careers,” Walker explained. “It’s attracting graduates of our colleges and universities as well as millennials to the state. So it’s a combination of making sure education and training is at the forefront.”
Walker says another success of the website is tying the state’s unemployment benefits into making resumes and applying for jobs on the website. Right now, the site has more than 35,000 resumes and over 96,000 jobs posted. …
